About Our Studio

The Attitude Arts Academy has been serving children and adults in Tazewell County since its opening, in 2013.  As of October 2018, the Attitude Arts Academy officially became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization!  This designation will enable us to expand our programming, providing more opportunities to the local community for the arts.

Our current class offerings include:  dance, theatre, arts and crafts, martial arts, and more!  This year, we are also launching our After School Arts Program (ASAP).  This co-ed program is exclusive for students at Richlands Elementary School, and meets daily from after school until 5:30PM. Students enrolled will be picked up from school each day, and will be walked to the Attitude Arts Academy.  They will receive homework assistance and tutoring services, have supervised time for games or resting, then will participate in the scheduled 4:30-5:30PM class offering.  â€‹

About Our Teachers

Emily Noonan, Executive Director

Emily started dancing at age three, and hasn't stopped!  Her dance career started locally with the Richlands Dance Theatre under the instruction of Randy Lamb as a toddler, and continued, with The Dance Centre, under the instruction of Carla Keene, as a child and adult.  Emily graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2009 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Public Health, with a double minor in International Studies focusing on International Dance and Dance Communication.  While at college, Emily had the privilege to study dance under the instruction of Judy Woodruff and Cara Harker, and performed with East Tennessee State University's Dance Program, in their First Annual Dance Concert.  Emily holds a Master's Degree in Public Health from Walden University, and has a life goal of improving the health and wellness of children in rural, Southwestern Virginia. After ten years as a dance and gymnastics teaching assistant for The Dance Centre, Emily started The Attitude Arts Academy!  When Emily is not in the dance studio, she serves as the grant writer for Mountain Kids, Inc., a local non-profit in Tazewell County.  Her pride and joy lies with her family - her husband, Shaun, toddler, Julia, twin girls Josephine and Margaret, and two cats, Anakin and Obi-Wan.  Her passion is helping students fall in love with creative and performing arts, and she is thrilled to be able to share her passion with students on a daily basis.
